Lulu's Cafe

I stumbled across Lulu’s Café the first week I was in San Antonio. It was eleven thirty at night and Lulu’s was the only place I could find that was open. The parking lot was packed so I thought this little café had to be good. Inside I found what I believe to be the world’s largest cinnamon roll. It was twice the size of my head and had to weigh at least 3 pounds. I was beyond shocked. The waitress told me the chicken fried steak was there specialty so I decided to try it. I wasn’t disappointed. It was one of the best chicken fried steaks I’ve ever had. It was also very massive. That was the first time that I haven’t been able to finish all the food on my plate. There was just too much to eat. After seeing ridiculously large cinnamon roll, I had to try it. Myself, and 3 other friends barely put a dent in the thing. The best part of the whole dinner was the price. For 3 days worth of food I paid about thirteen dollars. That’s something no college kid can pass up. So if you ever have a late night craving for chicken fried steak or a huge cinnamon roll, just head down Main Street to Lulu’s Café.

Pei Wei!

I’m a big fan of Chinese food. So I decided to do a review on Pei Wei. It is located just a little bit past the quarry market. It is a branch of P.F.Changs. They have smaller but similar menu. No entre is more than eight dollars. I can’t say its healthy but almost everything there is delicious. They have a good selection of noodle dishes. All of their main entrées come with your choice of chicken, beef, or tofu and either white or brown rice. I personally recommend the crab wontons for an appetizer and the chicken Thai dynamite. I cant get enough of it either. Pei Wei is usually busy so most of the time there is a good wait for your food. I have never had a bad meal there it is worth the short wait. So if you’re looking for something a little different to eat along the Asian cuisine then Pei Wei is the place to go. It is a low priced option that is bound to please. Anyone who is a fan of P.F Chang’s is a fan of Pei Wei. You can even watch your food being made if you so choose. If your looking for some good Chinese food then head over to Pei Wei!

Taco Taco!

I can’t do a food review without talking about Taco Taco. I’m pretty sure every person on the Trinity Campus has heard of it. It is a staple place to eat near school. Not only is it popular with the average person in San Antonia, but it has garnered national attention. Food network declared the best tacos in America come from Taco Taco. I thought that was a pretty bold statement. That was until I tried their tacos. With out a doubt they were the best tacos I’ve ever had. The restaurant itself is in a small, somewhat run down building. Don’t be deceived by this. Come at the wrong time and you will find yourself waiting in a line that usually stretches outside. It is well worth the wait. The trick to avoiding the line is to call in the order for pick up. Even if there is no line, its close to impossible to find an open table. So you are better off getting it to go. Besides the taste, the prices are also very reasonable. You might think the best taco in America would be expensive but it is not the case here. This little family owned restaurant defiantly tailors to the college student with a great food for little money.

Five Guys Burgers and Fries

Five Guys Burgers and Fries is the place to go if you want a juicy burger with just about anything you want on it. Everything there is reasonably priced and made when ordered. The meat is never frozen and the potatoes to make the fries are brought in fresh everyday. If you’re not feeling a cheeseburger then grab one of hot dogs. The hot dogs are amazing and just like the burgers, can be topped with just about anything you’d like. The toppings include the usual mayo, relish, onions, and ketchup along with other things like grilled mushrooms and hot sauce. All the toppings are free. There are regular and Cajun style fries. The fries come in two sizes, regular, which feeds two people, and the large, which is supposed to feed up to 4 people. The only problem I have with Five Guys is there lack of milkshakes and ranch dressing. Every good burger place should serve milkshakes. I’m a huge fan of ranch dressing with my fries but Five Guys doesn’t have it. The only location in San Antonio is in the Quarry Village, which is about a 5-minute drive from campus. So if you’re looking for an amazing cheeseburger and fries, Five Guys is always a good safe bet.

Chipotle

My series of Blogs are going to be about affordable restaurants near Trinity University. The first place I reviewed was Chipotle. It is located on Broadway St. about 3 miles from campus. Chipotle doesn't exist in New Mexico so the first time I tried it I was hooked. Every chance I get I go there. It’s simply delicious. The best part is its also well priced. The prices range from 6 to 7 dollars depending on the type of meat you add to either your burrito or tacos. The burritos are huge. I eat a lot and one Chipotle burrito can fill me up. I just recently tried the tacos and was impressed. You can either get soft or crunchy tacos. I personally like the crunchy tacos. Even though its not on the menu, they make a killer quesadilla. And it also happens to be the cheapest item priced at a staggering $4.50. The thing I like most about Chipotle is that all the food they serve is either organic or comes from an organic produce. It’s not completely healthy but it does make difference when deciding where I want to go eat. I feel a lot better about myself when I eat at Chipotle compared to Whataburger or Mcdonalds. So I would highly recommend Chipotle for a quick but delicious burrito!
